Red Oaks alum Gina Gershon, Laura Dale (Still Star-Crossed), Camrus Johnson (There’s Johnny), DJ Blickenstaff (Dear White People) and Matt Long (Helix) have been cast as series regulars opposite Willa Fitzgerald in E!’s pilot #Fashionvictim. The hourlong dark comedy is from Heathers writer Daniel Waters, who wrote the script, and his brother, Mean Girls helmer Mark Waters, who is set to direct.
The pilot, which hails from Universal Cable Productions and ThinkFactory Media, centers on Anya St. Clair (Fitzgerald), an angelic squirrel of a girl who works tirelessly as an associate editor of popular VIE Magazine and is the right-hand to its editor in chief, the great Celia Avery (Gershon). But beneath her grace, composure and charm are some seriously swirling demons. Finally tapping into her dark side, she is given a rush and a spooky strength that may take her to the top of the fashion world.
Blickenstaff plays Fred Murdoch, an associate editor at the magazine and one of Anya’s best friends. Dale will portray Sarah Taft, an associate editor at the magazine and Anya’s frenemy. Johnson will play Randy, Anya’s neighbor whose friendly gestures throw her for a loop. Long will portray Detective Stephen Hopper, who meets Anya during his investigation into the murder of a young woman. In addition, André Leon Talley (America’s Next Top Model) is cast in a guest role as Baptisto, a forgotten legend of the fashion industry; once an icon, he now floats through industry events.
The Waters are executive producing alongside Jessica Tuchinsky (Ghosts of Girlfriends Past). For Thinkfactory Media, Leslie Greif serves as executive producer, and Alexander Kerr as producer.
Gershon played Fay on Amazon’s Red Oaks, which recently wrapped its third and final season. Her other TV credits include Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Lost in Oz and Empire. She’s repped by Don Buchwald & Associates, Framework Entertainment and Untitled Entertainment.
