This preview for the History Channel’s ‘Texas Rising’ will make your Texas heart all aflutter

If you are a native Texan and die-hard champion of all things from this wonderful land, this trailer for the History Channel’s upcoming “Texas Rising” miniseries will make you want to get the image of the Lone Star State branded across your forehead in excitement. You will also wish you paid more attention in Texas History class.

OK maybe not, but it just might make you glue yourself to the couch in anticipation of the miniseries premiere on Memorial Day weekend.

The historical fiction miniseries, set to run for eight hours and possibly more, is History’s attempt to echo “Hatfields & McCoys,” the miniseries that was an unexpectedly huge hit for the network in May 2012. The shoot-’em-up series uses the battle of the Alamo as a takeoff point for a story about the formation of the Republic of Texas and the rise of the Texas Rangers. (The ones with guns, not the baseball team.)

Bill Paxton plays Gen. Sam Houston, with Brendan Fraser, Ray Liotta, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olivier Martinez, Thomas Jane, Crispin Glover, Jeremy Davies, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Christopher McDonald, Max Thieriot, Robert Knepper, Jeff Fahey, and Kris Kristofferson filling out the rest of the cast.

Martinez, husband of actress Halle Berry, has been installed as Gen. Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna.

The miniseries was filmed in Mexico, requiring producers to rebuild the Alamo on a television set on the soil of the country that fought Texas nearly two centuries ago.

Irony, anyone?
